The scientific name for armoured dinosaurs is Thyreophorans (pronounced thy-rio-FO-ren), which means “shield-bearers.” These armoured ornithischian dinosaurs lived between the Early Jurassic and the Late Cretaceous. They were herbivorous and had various types of body armour. The most familiar armoured dinosaurs are the Stegosaurus and Ankylosaurus.
